Born 1951, Skidegate, British Columbia
Alfie Collinson is the grandson of renowned argillite carvers, Lewis Collinson and Arthur Moody. He descends from the Eagle Clan.
Collinson began carving argillite at the age of ten under the tutelage of his grandfather and eventually his uncle. He was profoundly influenced by Pat McGuire's form, distinguished by its sweeping lines and clean finish. McGuire established a school where he taught his technique to several carvers, including Collinson.
Collinson is known for his specialization in argillite. He continues to create beautiful contemporary works that can be found in private collections and museums around the world.
