Bert Smith is a member of the Tlowitsis tribe of the Kwakwaka’wakw nation, near Campbell River, BC. He began carving in 1994, and now works out of the Hamatsa carving studio. Throughout his career, his teachers have included Bill Henderson, Junior Henderson, and Tom Hunt. His exceptional teachers and natural ability for carving have given him the opportunity to create many potlatch objects for his community.
