Carl Stromquist is of Interior Salish descent and mainly a self-taught artist who has focused on the forms and designs of his cultural heritage.
In 1992 he began producing Northwest Coast art in the form of paintings and has, to date, created five limited edition prints. He has studied under Salish Artist, George Pennier, and started carving wood in 1997. Stromquist has also collaborated with glass sculpture artist, Douglas Baker, and is currently working with him in casting stainless steel.
Stromquist is influenced by the art of Robert Davidson, Dempsey Bob, Charles Edenshaw, and Bill Reid. He has a keen appreciation of Northern design.
