Born 1991, Duncan BC
With many established artists in her family, from an early age Charlene Johnny has been exposed to Northwest Coast First Nations art. Working out of Coast Salish visual traditions she has an interdisciplinary approach combining elements and principles of photography and portrait-drawing with this traditional art. The effect is bright and bold colours with simplistic lines that often seem to reference a Pop-art aesthetic. Charlene’s mentors are Tahltan artist Alano Edzerza and artist Tamara Skubovius.
