Born 1960, Pender Harbor, BC
Derald Scoular was born in Garden Bay, Pender Harbor BC, the son of Donald and Brenda Scoular. His native heritage is Salish, stemming from grandmother’s on both sides. In 1981 Derald began his career in carving under the guidance of Master Carver Gene Brabant while residing in Vancouver, BC. Derald learned to carve in the Kwakiutl style and is constantly developing his own unique style and technique.
Today, Scoular’s work, masks and totem poles can be found throughout Canada, USA and Europe. He resides in Port Alberni, BC.
