Edward Spencer was born in Kitkatla, BC, and is from the Killer Whale clan, Tsimshian Nation. Edward's heritage is both Port Simpson and Kitkatla.
Edward's artistic endeavours began in his teenage years. At the age of 15 he started painting and was entirely self-taught. Edward studied contemporary and historic art pieces to develop his own style. His first painting was given to his grandmother and his first paddle was given to his grandfather, who was also a paddle carver. Edward has since refined his paddle carving skills and has completed commissions for clients around the world.
Edward has been inspired by Dempsey Bob's speech that ”Great art comes from good and great people”.
