Frank Paulson was born on Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands) and is a descendant of Master Haida argillite carver, Tom Price. He is a self-taught artist and has been engraving jewellery since 1986. His design influences are garnered from some of the most renowned Haida Artists such as Tom Price, Charles Edenshaw, John Robson and John Cross. More current influences are Bill Reid, Robert Davidson, Nelson Cross and Don Yeomans.
Paulson is currently producing some of the finest Northwest Coast native jewellery pieces, working mainly in gold. His fine cut-out designs are both striking and elegant, displaying his unique and fine craftsmanship. Paulson draws his inspiration from the classic Haida crests, Eagle, Raven and Frog.
In the 1993 documentary Ravens and Eagles, which aired on the Knowledge Network, Paulson was prominently featured, revealing insight on his work as well as the man behind the art. Internationally renowned, his work can be found in collections all over the world.
