Henry Reece is a young Coast Tsimshian Artist who received his formal art training at the renowned Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Native Art and Design in Hazelton, BC. He grew up in Hartley Bay, where at an early age took an interest in carving and designing. Here he studied under the guidance of important artists, such as Art Sterrit, Earl Muldoe and Vernon Stephens.
Reece is part of a new generation of mask carvers who are making traditional artworks with a connection to their own hertiage. Reece also studied jewelry making and design under the prominent Tsimshian Artist, Henry Green. His preferred medium is wood, but he also produces works on paper.
In 1998, Reece began studies at prominent First Nations art school, K’san, where he learned form lining and design and developed his technical skills. Despite his short time carving, Reece’s craftsmanship displays the maturity of an experienced carver.
