William Cook lived in Alert Bay until he was fourteen, when he moved to Victoria. There, he learned to work in metal with Paddy Seaweed and to paint with Francis Dick. William Cook comes from a family of artists: his brother is established Kwakwaka’wakw artist Rande Cook, and his niece is emerging Kwakwaka’wakw artist Jazmine McCrimmon-Cook. His particular Kwakwaka’wakw style reflects these relationships.
Cook is primarily a jeweller which he started at the age of 19. He began creating hand carved and painted cedar panels in 2013.
