This Frog mask by Ben Davidson is made of cast bronze and aluminum forton. Ben has experimented with this form before, making a papercast replicate of the original wood mask that this forton is modelled after. Over his career, Ben has worked extensively with his father, Robert Davidson as well as his uncle, Reg Davidson. Their artistic influence is apparent in his work but Ben has developed his own distinct style that is marked by its often playful elements. Ben’s work often utilizes puns, both visually and in his titles. In particular, he references the Haida Formline, especially the U-form, one of the basics of this visual language.
