Ned Matilpi

Ned Matilpi is a talented Kwakwaka’wakw artist who began his carving and designing career in 1972 under the tutelage of his father, respected artist Oscar Matilpi. Matilpi’s father was an excellent teacher who was fortunate enough to be trained by such Northwest Coast Master Carvers as Mungo Martin and Henry Hunt. Matilpi added a contemporary feel to the traditional carving techniques he learned from his father.

In addition to studying with his father, Ned Matilpi was taught by renowned Kwakwaka’wakw artists Beau Dick, Doug Cranmer and the late Joe Peters Jr. Matilpi began teaching others the art of carving in 1982.
