Shawn Edenshaw

Shawn Edenshaw is a young carver of notable talent. Shawn was introduced to the work of Robert Davidson and The Rainbow Creek Dance group at a young age. It was with this highly skilled dance group that Edenshaw learned about the traditions, songs, and dances of his Haida culture.

Edenshaw drew early inspiration from celebrated artists Bill Reid, Jim McGuire, Nelson Cross, Gary Wilson, as well as his father, Jim Edenshaw. Shawn started carving in copper at the age of twelve―cutting and shaping this metal was how he began working in jewellery. Today, he works primarily in silver and gold, although he enjoys learning new mediums. His silver and gold pieces are engraved with crests and symbols of historical and cultural significance to the Haida people.

Edenshaw continues his career as a jewellery carver by increasing his knowledge in the medium. He's expanded his work in other materials, such as glass, steel, and wood. His largest work to date, a 6' glass installation, can be found at the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver.
