Alfred Seaweed

Born May 22, 1949 in Alert Bay, BC, Kwakwaka'wakw artist Alfred Seaweed was an artist best known for his jewelry. Alfred took the the Sisiutl (double-headed sea serpent), from his mother, and the Eagle, from his father, as his family crests. In 1978 Alfred apprenticed under Lloyd Wadhams, another prominent Kwakwaka'wakw artist, who taught him the art of jewelry carving. Alfred worked primarily in silver and gold and he typically chose to carve traditional Kwakwaka'wakw motifs and crest symbols. Alfred passed away in 2020.
