Salish artist David "Dave" Louis was born in 1969. Louis' mother was Squamish and his father was Musqueam. With over 20 years of experience, Dave has developed his own style. He learned to carve by watching and copying his father and other carvers such as Dave Nahani, Edmund Williams, Darren Lewis, Peter Charlie, and William Watts.
He lives on the Musqueam reserve in Coast Salish territory. A longhouse dancer, he's received a Musqueam name 'Gush-tane-m', and a Kwakwaka'wakw name 'Numigalas'. Louis carves masks, totem poles, and plaques.
