John Nutter

Vancouver artist John Nutter began his lifelong exploration of glass as a creative medium in Winnipeg in 1974, following formal studies in art and architecture.In 1983 he was nominated with Winston Leathers, RCA, to represent Manitoba in the Bronfman Award Competition, Canada's most prestigious craft award. In 1988 he relocated to Vancouver where he met sculptor George Rammell and soon found himself working with Rammell and Haida artist Bill Reid on Reid's monumental bronze sculpture The Spirit of Haida Gwaii. His main focus is directed towards large-scale architectural commissions, including the 5-meter high glass and steel sculpture, "Escape to Stella Polaris", commissioned jointly by the Kelowna International Airport and the City of Kelowna Public Art Committee. In 1996, Nutter was commissioned by the Vancouver Symphony Society to create Symphonia, a sculptural glass and steel mural, to honour their donors. It is installed in the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, BC.
