Roy Hanuse

Roy Hanuse was a Kwakwaka’wakw artist well-known in his home province of British Columbia. His early training in the art of Northwest Coast carving took place in his home village of Alert Bay. Alert Bay is renowned for having continued its cultural practices in the face of opposition from the Canadian Government, and because of this obstinacy has retained much of its heritage intact.

The work of Roy Hanuse has always exhibited a great delicacy. He mainly carved his works in red cedar. They are so finely carved that they weigh almost nothing.
